Murphy Realty and Management was founded in 1988 by John Murphy as a full-service brokerage company. Our first project was Friendly Valley Apartments in Steamboat Rock, which we still manage today.
Seeing an unfulfilled need for property management in the marketplace, we changed our focus and we are now a realty and property management company.
Sons Mike and Bill joined their father, enabling an expansion into more than 50 cities and towns in Iowa. Later, Terry Ziesman joined the team bringing with him more than 20 years of real estate experience in California. We're glad to have him!
John Murphy
John Murphy is the head of our organization, and is one of a handful of brokers who have attained PHA, HUD and USDA certifications. He is our broker and handles all reports associated with USDA projects and attends all annual meetings with all his projects, USDA and Non-USDA.
Bill Murphy
Bill graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in December 1996 and began working with at Murphy Realty & Management Service in January 1997. He obtained his Iowa Real Estate License in March 1997 and became a broker-associate at Murphy Realty & Management Service in January 2004. In May 1997 he began to manage his first USDA/Rural Development property located in Palmer, Iowa and now has full responsibility of caring for 342 subsidized units and 117 unsubsidized units in the State of Iowa.
Bill is married to his wonderful wife, Kim, and has three children; Kellen, Reagan, and Owen.
Michael Murphy
Michael graduated from University of Northern Iowa in December 2005 and started working for his parents in January 2006. He obtained his Iowa Real Estate License in January 2007. He is a property manager and assists in all the day-to-day operations. He also manages his own apartment buildings.
Terry Ziesman
Terry is our jack of all trades. He handles all heating, plumbing, electrical, and exterior building repairs. He handles all maintenance work for our apartments in the surrounding area which include Bancroft, Algona, Whittemore, West Bend, LuVerne, Wesley and sometimes further away when necessary.
Norma Murphy is our Certification Specialist. She visits all tenants and handles all USDA paperwork associated with low-income housing tenants.
Sara Droessler is our full-time secretary. She answers all telephone calls and relays all messages and pays most invoices associated with John’s projects. She is married and currently has one child and lives in Bancroft, Iowa.
